Mission

Make the warning hard to miss.

ARkStorm.org gathers everything known about the ARkStorm megaflood in one place, explains it in plain language, and helps people find out what it means for their own home.

[DRAFT MISSION: Jim to edit or replace]
Why we started

The original public site is no longer maintained.

In 2011, USGS made a film about ARkStorm. It ends by telling viewers to go to Arkstorm.com for more information.

That site is no longer maintained. USGS told us the reason was funding.

ARkStorm.org was started to keep that information public, with everything known about ARkStorm in one place and updated as new work is published.

Our rules

How we work.

  1. 01

    We explain.

Plain language. If we have to use a technical term, we say what it means.

  2. 02

    We cite.

We point to the original studies so you can read them yourself.

  3. 03

    We label our own analysis.

Our founder’s analysis is marked “Analysis” and kept apart from published research.

  4. 04

    We stay out of politics.

No parties, no candidates, no campaigns. Only what the studies say and what we can show.

Who’s behind this

Jim Francis, founder

[JIM: three or four sentences. Who you are, where you’re based, and why this matters to you.]

ARkStorm.org is being set up as a nonprofit. [STATUS: for example, “501(c)(3) application filed”]

What this site isn’t.

Not a government site.

We’re independent. We aren’t part of USGS or any other agency, and none of them has endorsed us.

Not an emergency service.

For flood warnings and evacuation orders, follow the National Weather Service and your county emergency office.

Not a forecast.

ARkStorm is a scenario: a realistic what-if built by scientists. Nobody can say which year the next one arrives.

Stay in the loop.
